According to the latest report from market research agency Jon Peddie Research , global GPU shipments in the third quarter of 2022 were only 75.5 million, a 10.3% decrease from the second quarter , and a 25.1% decrease from the same period in 2021 , setting a new record. This represents the largest decline in market sales since 2009.

The report pointed out that in terms of desktop GPUs , shipments in the third quarter of 2022 decreased by 15.43 % , and notebook GPU shipments plummeted by 30% , which was the lowest in 13 years. In addition, in terms of overall personal computers, the penetration rate of GPU was 115% , down 6 percentage points from the second quarter.

Quarterly shipments and market share percentage

The report pointed out that traditionally the third quarter should have been the peak season for the GPU market. Based on the cumulative data for the past 10 years, the average increase was 5.3%, but the third quarter of 2022 was unusually deserted. In addition, for independent graphics cards, the report has not yet been announced. JPR only said that the overall decline was 33.5% compared with the second quarter, and the situation is more serious than the GPU itself.

CPU shipping platform share and quantity

As for market share, AMD fell by 8.5 percentage points from the second quarter, NVIDIA fell by 1.87 percentage points, and Intel increased by 10.3 percentage points. Looking forward to the fourth quarter of 2022, JPR predicts that graphics card shipments will continue to decline, but prices will increase and supply will be relatively sufficient.

In addition, the report also stated that global PC CPU processor shipments in the third quarter of 2022 were 66 million, a decrease of 5.7% from the second quarter and an 18.6% decrease from the same period in 2021. According to the division by platform, desktop and notebook platforms accounted for 38% and 62% respectively. The desktop quarter increased by 10 percentage points in the second quarter and increased by 8 percentage points from the same period in 2021.
