"The Great Chip" 2, Chapter 1 Reading Notes [Copy link]

The first chapter is a brief history of semiconductor development. I don't want to talk about the eight traitors. I'm not interested in how the United States developed. I just read about Japan and South Korea. I was a little touched.

The book says:

In the 1950s, the Japanese government supported Japanese companies to learn semiconductor technology from the United States. In 1968, Texas Instruments accepted the technology transfer terms proposed by Japan and established a joint venture with Sony to enter the Japanese market.

In 1986, among the world's top ten integrated circuit manufacturers, the United States had 3, Japan had 6, and South Korea had 1.

What followed was a continued crackdown by the United States on Japan.

In the anti-dumping of DRAM, Lee Kun-hee, the head of Samsung in South Korea, took advantage of the opportunity of the United States suppressing the Japanese semiconductor industry and sent a strong public relations team to lobby the US government to join the United States in suppressing Japan. The lobbying was effective and the United States eventually

Only 0.74% anti-dumping duties were imposed on South Korea, while Japan was charged anti-dumping duties of up to 100%.

After reading this segment about Japan and South Korea, I thought about it for a while. It really reflects the saying that "business is like a battlefield". As long as you seize the opportunity, everything can change. But if you don't seize the opportunity, your life may be ruined.

Life is spent in opportunities one after another.

As Winston Churchill said, "Humanity has no eternal enemies, no eternal friends, only eternal interests."

Although I am in the chip industry, I am still worried. From the Huawei chip incident, the Ms. Meng incident, to the Zheku incident, in the end, it is still the people who suffer.   Details Published on 2023-6-13 10:13
