Let me tell you about my experience using Gaoyun FPGA these days [Copy link]

A few days ago, I bought a Sipeed Tang Nano 4K board. The FPGA chip is the GW1NSR-4C from the Little Bee family. I was thinking of getting it back to try, but I didn't have much hope. After receiving it, I often encountered problems during debugging.

I changed the BANK voltage of the board today, and gave it away after using it for a while. I think it should be a problem with the power chip, and the FPGA should not be broken. The functions of this small board are fixed, so it is very inconvenient to make some changes.

There is a 2.5v IO on the board. Because it is connected to the HDMI interface, it may be affected by the electrostatic protection chip and the frequency of 75MHz cannot be run. Later, the 3.3V was changed to 3.5V. Because there was no corresponding resistor, I replaced the original 2.5V resistor with the 3.3V one. In this way, 2.5V became 3.3V, and 3.3V became 2.5V. It broke after a while of normal use.

Apart from these problems, the use of Gaoyun FPGA chip in the past few days has made me feel that novices who want to get started with FPGA must play with it. Its compilation speed is too damn fast. I started with Xilinx's ZYNQ. When using Vivado, no matter how big the program is, as long as there is a little change in the code, it takes dozens of minutes to see the result. The CPU fan is buzzing, and I don't know how much electricity is wasted. Because I am a novice, I often write mistakes in the program, so I need to recompile it continuously, and most of my time is wasted on this.

Gaoyun's FPGA is different. It compiles faster than a single-chip microcomputer and can be completed in a few seconds. Just for this reason, even if there are some minor problems in the IDE that need to be dealt with, it can save a lot of time.

I am still on the way to getting started with Xilinx. Once I have mastered Xilinx, I will continue to play with domestic FPGAs.   Details Published on 2022-5-7 19:08

Did you modify the circuit? I don't understand how the failure to run at 75MHz has anything to do with the ESD protection chip. How did you come to this conclusion?

When collecting external 75MHz signal input and connecting it to the corresponding pin, the level becomes smaller.  Details Published on 2021-11-12 16:34

When collecting external 75MHz signal input, the voltage becomes smaller when it is connected to the corresponding pin.

I like fast speed. Many systems now take too long to compile.

I don't know why Xilinx is so slow. I used to think that FPGAs should be like that, but now I don't think so.  Details Published on 2021-11-13 16:20

Have you tried OV2640 to see if the output is in color?

Is there any problem downloading the firmware? Debugging seems to be a pain in the ass  Details Published on 2021-11-12 23:08

Xilinx is really slow. I can go out and buy a cup of coffee during the compilation time.  Details Published on 2021-11-15 10:16

I didn't get the M3 hard core. It's very convenient to download now. I use the built-in programmer to download to RAM and another version to download to FLASH.  Details Published on 2021-11-13 08:46

Compiling an FPGA, I still think about the electricity bill, it's so funny

I feel like many of the engineers in our forum can go on talk shows.

It is recommended to play with domestically produced products first and then use xilinx when domestically produced configurations cannot meet the requirements.  Details Published on 2022-5-7 22:14
