Brushless power tool reference design (handheld electric drill reference design) based on STM32G431 and STDRIVE101

 
Overview
The STDES-PTOOL3A reference design is a compact system for controlling BLDC/PMSM motors in handheld battery-operated tools. The board can be connected to a suitable 24V/250W power tool motor. More peak power can be delivered via a heat sink or circulating air unit for better power consumption. This reference design is ideal for high-performance motor control applications such as drills, grinders, disc cutters, circular saws, leaf blowers, handheld lawn mowers and other power tools. The small form factor and ample computing power make it even suitable for applications such as drones, wheelchairs, home appliances and robotic platforms. The board contains a high-performance STM32G431RB MCU with integrated operational amplifiers and comparators, specifically optimized for motor control applications, as well as a triple half-bridge gate driver that controls six low-voltage, high-current MOSFETs. The MCU has multiple ADC peripherals, enabling simultaneous sampling of motor phase currents. This board can implement six-step algorithm and FOC algorithm. This enables high-performance six-step field-oriented control (FOC) of in-wheel motors.
