Harbin Institute of Technology and Harbin Engineering University are banned from using genuine MATLAB software. What do you think about this? [Copy link]

In recent days, teachers and students of Harbin Institute of Technology and Harbin Engineering University have been unable to use MATLAB. Some students of Harbin Institute of Technology said that they had received a notice of deactivation of the genuine software. After negotiating with MathWorks, the company that developed MATLAB, people learned that the relevant authorization had been terminated due to the US government's entity list.

After asking MathWorks US customer service, someone received the following response: Service cannot be restored.

Someone consulted the teachers in charge of technical support at MathWorks and HIT and received the following response:

This is really speechless. The student said that as a paid genuine software, there may be hope for limited use in the future. But the ban on MATLAB may be just the beginning, and more software from the United States may encounter this situation.
This is somewhat similar to when Huawei was included in the "Entity List" by the United States last year. Due to US sanctions, Huawei phones have not been able to use a series of software services such as the Google Service Framework since May last year.
Looking at the "Entity List" released by the US Department of Commerce on May 22, we will find that it currently includes 13 Chinese universities: Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Renmin University of China, National University of Defense Technology, Hunan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin Engineering University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Sichuan University, Tongji University, Guangdong University of Technology and Nanchang University.

Looking at these universities, their advantageous disciplines cover a wide range and are very strong, covering aerospace technology, materials, instruments, computers, engineering, artificial intelligence and other fields. If these universities are prevented from academic exchanges with the United States, or even normal teaching activities, it will be a restriction on China's high-tech development.

What do you think about this matter?

It's no big deal. Just throw it away, throw it away, throw it away... It's just that everyone needs to start being alert. This is just the beginning. I have used many versions of Matlab during my years of schooling, but I never knew that copyright was required.

It should be related to military industry and high technology. Some have key disciplines in military industry, such as Harbin Institute of Technology, Aerospace, and National Defense Science and Technology. Some, such as Science and Technology of China and Renmin University, are symbolic. As for the use of software, it does not have much impact, unless it is the kind that is authorized once a year. It is basic research in itself. It just makes life difficult for those American companies that sell high-end equipment. These schools are the financial sponsors. I don't know if the students graduating from them are affected. Why didn't I see Beijing Institute of Technology?

In the era of globalization, if you want to be big and have everything, no one is stupid.

In the era of globalization, people want to be big and have everything, but they only have land economy, and others are not stupid.

The genuine version cannot be used, but the pirated version can certainly be used, but it cannot be used to publish papers openly, which will definitely have an impact.

In addition, is this a signal that many software in the United States may be in trouble in the future?

Prepare a few second-hand desktop motherboards of the same model. The worst-case scenario: if Windows OS or industry software, whether genuine or pirated, is locked, use them to assemble a work PC that is not connected to the Internet. In extreme cases, you can use DOS6.22 to run the DOS version of PADS2000 or PROTEL3.31. You can still make a living by working in hardware.
