Mouser Electronics now sells semiconductors for industrial and wearable devices
Analog Devices MAX32690 Arm Cortex-M4F BLE 5.2 Microcontroller
May 6, 2024 – Mouser Electronics, an authorized global distributor of electronic components and industrial automation products focused on New Product Introduction (NPI), is now stocking the MAX32690 microcontroller (MCU) from Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI). The MAX32690 is an advanced system-on-chip (SoC) that combines all the necessary processing power with easy connectivity and Bluetooth capabilities required for a wide range of consumer and industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications, making it an ideal ultra-efficient MCU for battery-powered applications.
The ADI MAX32690 MCU, available from Mouser Electronics, features a 120MHz Arm® Cortex®-M4F CPU with a floating-point unit (FPU) for arithmetic calculations and instructions, and an ultra-low-power 32-bit RISC-V (RV32) coprocessor to help offload data processing. The SoC is equipped with multiple low-power oscillators, supports external crystals (32MHz crystals are required for Bluetooth low energy), and provides 3MB of internal flash and 1MB of internal SRAM, external flash and SRAM expansion interfaces. Powerful on-chip communication interfaces include multiple QSPI, UART, CAN 2.0B, and I2C serial high-speed interfaces, as well as an I2S port for connecting audio codecs. All interfaces support efficient DMA-driven transfers between peripherals and memory, and the 12-input (8 external), 12-bit SAR ADC samples analog data at up to one million samples per second (1 Msps).
The MAX32690's Bluetooth 5.2 low-energy (LE) radio supports multiple modes such as Mesh, long-range (coded), and high-throughput. The device's RISC-V core handles timing-critical controller tasks, freeing programmers from having to worry about BLE interrupt latency. In addition, LE audio hardware using a software codec is available separately. For IP data/security issues, the MAX32690 provides a cryptographic toolbox (CTB) that includes a modular arithmetic accelerator (MAA) for fast elliptic curve digital signature algorithms (ECDSA), an advanced encryption standard (AES) engine, TRNG, SHA-256 hashing, and a secure boot loader. It also includes two quad-channel SPI on-chip execution (SPIXF and SPIXR) interfaces (each with a capacity of up to 512MB) for expanding internal code and SRAM space off-chip.
The MAX32690 MCU is available in 68-lead TQFN-EP (0.40mm pitch) and 140-ball WLP (0.35mm pitch) packages. The device is suitable for industrial environments and is rated for -40°C to +105°C. Target applications include wired and wireless industrial communications, wearable and hearable fitness and health equipment, wearable wireless medical devices, IoT and IIoT, and asset tracking. The MAX32690 has a matching evaluation kit (MAX32690EVKIT#), which can also be ordered on the Mouser website.
