According to the Financial Times, Qualcomm CEO Amon said that Qualcomm hopes to participate in the upcoming initial public offering (IPO) of ARM, a chipmaker under SoftBank Group, and purchase some shares.
Amon mentioned that Qualcomm is interested in investing with its competitors, and if the consortium making the acquisition is large enough, it may directly acquire ARM along with other companies. However, he also mentioned that Qualcomm has not yet talked to SoftBank about a potential investment in ARM.
Nvidia's plan to acquire ARM failed earlier this year. For this reason, SoftBank chose to IPO ARM. According to Bloomberg, Tokyo-based SoftBank is seeking a valuation of at least $60 billion for ARM.
