The latest report from market research firm Counterpoint Research shows that Indonesia's smartphone market shipments grew 11.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2022.
In terms of manufacturer rankings, OPPO topped the list with a market share of 22.3%. Counterpoint Research pointed out that OPPO launched the new Reno series in the quarter and successfully consolidated its position in the mid-to-low-end market together with the popular A series.
Ranked second is vivo, with a market share of 20.6%. The report said that vivo's Y and V series continued to be popular in the mid-to-low-end market, and the launch of Y75 and V23 5G models showed that vivo was committed to providing more affordable 5G smartphones.
Samsung ranked third with a market share of 17.7%, and its new products such as S21 FE, S22, A03 and A53 performed well. At the same time, the Samsung S22 Ultra became the preferred model in Indonesia's high-end smartphone market. This model not only attracted users who upgraded from the S21 series, but also attracted Note users due to its S-Pen function.
Next are Xiaomi and Realme, with market shares of 14.3% and 11% respectively.
Regarding the outlook for 2022, Febriman Abdillah, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research, said: "Indonesia's smartphone market will be promising in 2022, as OEMs will continue to launch new models, introduce more affordable 5G smartphones, and promote online channel sales through cooperation with e-commerce portals. The price range of US$150-249 is likely to become the fastest growing smartphone segment in Indonesia."
