A rare gold-plated Nintendo Wii game console that was originally given as a gift to Queen Elizabeth II is being auctioned.

This one-of-a-kind Wii was created by game developer THQ in 2009 to promote the Big Family Games mini-game series, but it failed to meet Buckingham Palace's stringent standards for a royal gift and was returned to THQ.

After THQ went bankrupt, the 24K gold-plated Wii ended up in the hands of Dutch collector Don, who is now auctioning the piece. This will be the second time the Wii has been auctioned after it was first auctioned on eBay last October, when an asking price of $300,000 was marked but the auction account was closed. This time, the auction on Golding is running smoothly until May 21st.

This isn't a brand new item either, as there are signs of gold chipping. Unlike many limited edition consoles, this is a truly unique device.
