Samsung Galaxy A12 becomes the most shipped smartphone in 2021

      According to Omdia's "Smartphone Market Tracking Report for the Fourth Quarter of 2021", Samsung's Galaxy A12 topped the list of the top 10 best-selling mobile phones last year, surpassing Apple's products. Although Apple has far fewer mobile phone models than its competitors, it has always occupied the first, second and other top positions in the sales rankings until now.

　　Since Samsung's Galaxy A12 was released in the fourth quarter of 2020, shipments have exceeded 10 million units in each quarter since 2021, except for the second quarter due to production shortages caused by the recurrence of the epidemic in India and Vietnam. Looking at the full year, sales in 2021 reached 51.8 million units. This is Samsung's first model with annual sales of more than 50 million units, topping the shipment rankings among more than 1,000 smartphones sold worldwide.

　　As competition with Chinese manufacturers intensifies, Samsung has focused on strengthening its low-end product lines. Starting in 2019, its low-end J series was integrated into the current A series. At the same time, Samsung is also steadily moving configurations such as multiple cameras to A series models and adding other features that consumers like.

　　Omdia said, "Although the average selling price of Apple's top 10 iPhones is five times higher than that of the Galaxy A12, it is Samsung's most efficient model, with sales of more than 50 million units in a single year."

　　The total sales of iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 11, which occupy the second to fourth places, are 41.7 million, 34.9 million, and 33.6 million units, respectively. These iPhones are regular models in their series, and their prices are lower than the corresponding Pro and Pro Max models.

　　The iPhone 13, released by Apple in 2021, is the second cheapest model in the series, only higher than the iPhone 13 mini. The lowest-priced version of this model has 128GB of storage space and is priced at $829, which is comparable to last year's iPhone 12 64GB version. However, due to the larger storage space, the overall average selling price of the iPhone 13 is higher than that of its counterpart last year. Despite the increase in price, iPhone 13 shipments still reached 34.9 million units, more than 10 million units higher than the 23.3 million units of the iPhone 12 last year.

　　Xiaomi's Redmi 9A ranks fifth on the list. Xiaomi's Redmi 9A has sold 26.8 million units, with an average selling price of around $78, which is only about 1/10 of the selling price of Apple's top-ranked iPhone models.

　　Apple still ranks 6 to 9, and the shipments of Pro models have increased significantly. Although the average selling price of Pro models is much higher than $1,000, the shipments still exceeded 20 million units. Apple's total shipments of mobile phones last year were 234.5 million units, of which 39% were models with an average selling price of more than $1,000. This proportion is the highest in Apple's history.

Compared with last year, Apple has two more positions and Samsung has two fewer positions. Xiaomi, like last year, occupies one position, but its ranking has risen from 9th last year to 5th this year.
