Verizon updates call filter app to combat harassing calls and spam text messages

According to foreign media reports, Verizon in the United States has stepped up its efforts to combat harassing calls and spam text messages by updating an app to provide more options for postpaid users.

The updated free Call Filter app offers more control over caller ID, which Verizon notes will allow customers to know who is calling before they decide to answer.

Verizon previously implemented the STIR/SHAKEN authentication framework to reduce fraudulent calls and verify the identity of callers. Authentic call information is highlighted with a V symbol on the phone display, TV, call log and voicemail.

A paid version of Call Filter for $2.99 ​​per month includes additional screening features.

Verizon said it also created circuits on its own network to "identify and observe illegal automated calling activity" and claimed it was the first company to share that information with the Industry Traceback Group to help the association track the source of harassing calls and notify authorities.
