On January 15, according to MacRumors, Bloomberg reporters Mark Gurman and Debby Wu said last year that Apple had tested a new iPad Pro with a glass back to support wireless charging. In a recent newsletter, Gurman said that the new iPad Pro is expected to be released in 2022.

Although the new iPad Pro is expected to support wireless charging, 9to5Mac reported today that Apple may ultimately abandon the glass back design after testing due to concerns about the device's fragility.

Sources familiar with Apple's design plans say the company has developed iPad Pro prototypes that feature a larger glass Apple logo and wireless charging.

One of the prototypes reportedly supports MagSafe, uses stronger magnets than the iPhone to prevent accidental damage, and supports faster wireless charging speeds compared to the iPhone's MagSafe.

Given that Apple already has several prototypes, it's unclear whether a glass-backed iPad Pro will ever be released, but there are reports that the next-generation iPad Pro will feature a new design that supports wireless charging. The exact release date for the device is currently unknown.
