iOS 15.2 / iPadOS 15.2 RC preview released

According to MacRumors, Apple today released the RC candidate preview version of the iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2 updates to developers for testing. The specific version number is 19C56. This is less than a week away from the release of iOS 15.2 Beta 4 and less than six weeks away from the official launch of iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1.

iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2 can be downloaded through the Apple Developer Center or over the air after installing the appropriate profile on your iPhone or iPad.

iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2 add support for App Privacy Report, a feature that Apple first highlighted at WWDC 2021. With the App Privacy Report, you can see how often apps access sensitive information such as location, camera, microphone, and contacts through privacy permissions.

The feature also provides details on the various domains that apps and websites are contacting, so you can keep an eye on what the apps are doing behind the scenes and where your data might be going.

You can enable App Privacy Report by opening the Settings app, selecting the Privacy section, and selecting App Privacy Report. You can turn this feature on, and data will start showing up here after you start using an app. Apple shows seven days of data.

iOS 15.2 introduces upgraded Apple Messages messaging security features for kids, and it also adds a "legacy contacts" feature that lets you set up a user who can access your Apple content, like photos, after you pass away.

Apple has added a new "Track My Items" option in the Find My app for scanning nearby items, and the TV app on iPad has a new sidebar to make navigation easier. In the Mail app, a new feature called Hide My Items has been added when composing or replying to an email.

There are also tweaked notification summaries that look more like cards, an on/off toggle for macro mode on iPhone 13 Pro models in the camera app, and updates to SOS emergency calls. The automatic call feature can now be enabled by quickly pressing the side button or holding down the side button and volume button at the same time. Apple has added a longer 8-second countdown (up from 3 seconds) to give you more time to cancel accidental dialing.

iOS 15.2 adds Apple Music Voice Control, a new subscription tier that allows access to music using Siri. The update also includes app privacy reports, new safety features for kids and parents in Messages, and other features and bug fixes for the iPhone.

• Macro Photo Control can be enabled in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max settings to switch to the ultra-wide-angle lens to take macro photos and videos.

TV App

• The Store tab lets you browse, buy, and rent movies and TV shows all in one place.

CarPlay

• Enhanced city maps in Apple Maps, providing road details such as turn lanes, medians, bike lanes, and crosswalks in supported cities.

This release also includes the following enhancements for iPhone.

• Hide My Mail creates unique, random email addresses for iCloud+ users in the Mail app

• When in battery reserve, Find My can locate your iPhone for up to 5 hours

• Stocks allows you to view the currency of a stock and see the year-to-date performance when viewing a chart

• Reminders and Notes now allow you to delete or rename labels

This version also includes bug fixes for iPhone.
