LG Electronics recently announced that it has signed a global LTE communication standard patent licensing agreement with China Tinlong Mobile, the parent company of European mobile phone brand WIKO.
According to Yonhap News Agency, standard patents refer to essential technology patents that must be used to implement specific functions in products. According to the agreement signed by both parties, WIKO will pay patent royalties to LG Electronics for selling LTE mobile phones in the global market in the next few years.
LG Electronics also agreed to withdraw its lawsuit against WIKO in Germany. It is reported that LG Electronics had previously filed a patent infringement lawsuit against WIKO in the Mannheim District Court of Germany for three LTE communication standard patents and won all the cases the following year.
Hwijae Cho, head of LG Electronics' Patent Center, said: "Through the German lawsuits and this settlement, the value of our investment in technological innovation has been recognized. In the future, LG Electronics will strictly deal with the unauthorized use of our patents."
