Apple has informed some component suppliers that demand for iPhone 13 models is slowing ahead of the holidays, according to Bloomberg. Delivery expectations for the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro have begun to improve, and the devices could be shipped before Christmas.

Apple cut production of the 2021 iPhone 13 by as much as 10 million units in October due to an industry-wide chip shortage. Apple had planned to produce 90 million iPhone 13 models in 2021, but Broadcom and Texas Instruments were unable to deliver enough components.

Apple aimed to make up the shortfall when supply improves in 2022, but has now informed suppliers that it may ultimately not be able to get the necessary orders from customers, according to Bloomberg.

During Apple's fourth-quarter earnings call in October, Apple CEO Tim Cook said tight supply of iPhones, iPads and Mac computers had cost Apple about $6 billion and that supply issues would continue into December.

At launch, available iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models sold out quickly, with long wait times for shipments in the month following launch. Cook said in a conference call that Apple is "working frantically" to increase supply of the iPhone 13, and inventory appears to be catching up with demand.
