Recently, it was learned from Apple’s official support website that the iPhone 13 series no longer supports China Telecom’s 2G/3G network, while the 2G/3G networks of China Mobile and China Unicom are not affected.
In addition, the Hong Kong version no longer supports the CDMA standard, which means that the iPhone 13 series sold in Greater China will have no service when entering the telecom 4G/5G blind spot.
It should be noted that this move has nothing to do with Apple, but is related to telecommunications.
According to previous media reports, sources said that China Telecom requires that from 2020, all 5G terminals are not allowed to have CDMA frequency bands and standards, and also require that VoLTE switches are not allowed.
If the CDMA frequency band and standard have been reported, the removal schedule needs to be clearly stated. The CDMA frequency band and standard are not allowed to appear in the final network access certificate and model approval certificate.
It is understood that in the early and middle stages of 4G, CDMA mainly carried voice services, which is also an important factor in China Telecom's delay in clearing out CDMA.
However, with the official launch of China Telecom's VoLTE nationwide on November 29, 2018, and the realization of full network coverage, CDMA's last meaningful service has lost its value. With VoLTE, voice services are directly carried on LTE and no longer rely on CDMA.
According to China Telecom's performance report for the first three quarters of 2021, in the first three quarters of 2021, China Telecom's mobile communications service revenue was 140.528 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.3%. The net increase in mobile users was 18.64 million, reaching about 370 million, and the net increase in 5G package users was 69.04 million, reaching about 156 million.
