On October 26, TSMC founder Morris Chang pointed out that globalization and free trade in the past brought prosperity to the world. Thomas L. Friedman once wrote that "the world is flat", but the world is no longer flat. He believes that the US semiconductor supply chain is incomplete and the production cost is high. He believes that it is impossible for the US to promote local semiconductor manufacturing.

According to Taiwanese media reports, Morris Chang delivered a keynote speech on "Managing People's Learning and Growth" at the 20th anniversary dinner of the Yushan Science and Technology Association tonight, and accepted questions after the meeting.

When asked about the United States' active promotion of local semiconductor manufacturing and Intel's intention to expand investment, Morris Chang said that the US semiconductor manufacturing market share used to be 42%, but now it has dropped to 17%. The US government is actively promoting local semiconductor manufacturing in the hope of recovering the market share. He believes that the US supply chain is incomplete and the production cost is high, so local semiconductor manufacturing in the United States will not be successful.

As for the impact of Intel's active advocacy of the US government's subsidies to US-based semiconductor factories, Morris Chang said that Intel's motivation is to target the US government's subsidies, but this is a challenge for semiconductor factories in Asia and even the world.

Speaking of the competitiveness of Taiwan's semiconductor industry, Morris Chang said that Taiwan's semiconductors are very competitive, but operations must be in Taiwan.
