In the field of LCD panels, due to the increasing competitiveness of Chinese companies, South Korean companies such as Samsung and LG have had to gradually withdraw from LCD manufacturing and turn to the OLED market. Now in the optical lens/module market, the same example has reappeared, and the South Korean manufacturer Haicheng Optics has had to withdraw from the mobile phone module and lens market.
According to Korean media reports, Haicheng Optics recently announced the closure of its mobile phone module and lens business. The company had already stated in May this year that it would sell its camera module business, and now has decided to withdraw completely.
One of Haicheng Optics' main customers is Samsung, which supplies Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a subsidiary of Samsung responsible for mobile phone modules. The latter originally focused on the high-end mobile phone market, but is now also seeking to expand into mid- and low-end mobile phones, resulting in a continuous decline in Haicheng Optics' orders.
On the other hand, Haicheng Optics was unable to compete with the expansion of Chinese companies in the market. Chinese mobile phone camera module and lens companies, including Taiwan, continued to improve their competitiveness in terms of production capacity and technology. Haicheng Optics had suffered huge losses due to the fierce competition and had to withdraw from the market.
