On September 8, local time, the Administrative Court of Williamson County, Texas, and the city of Tyler in the county voted to approve Samsung Electronics' privileged plan to set up a factory there. It is believed that Samsung's second wafer factory in the United States is likely to be located in Tyler.
Texas local media Taylor Press reported that Williamson County and the city of Taylor held a joint meeting on the 8th and unanimously passed a resolution to provide tax incentives to Samsung.
Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell said this is the largest economic development project in Texas and the largest foreign-funded economic development project. He quoted the content of the resolution and pointed out that Samsung is willing to invest in the most advanced technology in the semiconductor industry in Tyler.
According to Samsung's investment plan in the above resolution, Samsung plans to invest US$17 billion to build a wafer factory by January 2026. It is also reported that the factory will create 1,800 direct jobs and 785 indirect jobs.
Samsung will receive a 92.5% reduction in property tax assessments over the next 10 years, which will be reduced to 90% in the second 10 years and 85% in the third 10 years. The scale of subsidies for factory water use and wastewater discharge is also reflected in the resolution. Samsung also agreed to hire 24 high school graduates from Tyler to intern at the company every year over the next 30 years.
Samsung has not yet released official information regarding the news.
