6-inch wafer fabs are optimistic about the demand for power MOSFET and diodes

According to industry insiders, for profit considerations, 6-inch wafer fabs including Yuanlong Electronics, Hanlei Technology, Mosi Semiconductor, and Nuvoton Technology have given priority to supplying MOSFET chips for the automotive, industrial, and niche markets, and are optimistic about the mid- to long-term demand prospects for this market.

Electronic Times quoted sources as saying that as IDMs' factory production in Southeast Asia has been negatively affected by the local epidemic, MOSFET suppliers in mainland China and Taiwan have transferred more orders to Taiwan to ensure stable supply.

At the same time, demand for diodes (especially automotive diodes) remains limited, making suppliers such as Pengcheng Technology and Hongyang Technology cautiously optimistic about the performance in the second half of this year. However, the above-mentioned source believes that the medium- and long-term demand outlook is bright, and 6-inch wafer fabs will shift supply to automotive diode production.

In February, the company raised diode prices, helping it post record second-quarter revenue of NT$603 million (US$21.8 million) and a 19% gross margin for the quarter.

The company said it was considering adjusting prices again, which would depend on the development of the epidemic in mainland China, where it manufactures, and the supply of upstream materials. Part of the company's Yangzhou plant operations was suspended in August due to a resurgence of local COVID-19 infections.
