On August 26, Strategy Analytics' latest research report pointed out that in Q2 2021, vivo jumped to the top of 5G smartphone shipments in the Asia-Pacific region for the first time. Among the top five 5G smartphone manufacturers in the region, three are Chinese brands, and 5G smartphone shipments in the Asia-Pacific region have more than doubled compared to last year (annual growth of 110%).
According to analysts, vivo is the leading smartphone vendor in the Asia-Pacific region, with annual shipments growing 215%. In the past year, vivo has surpassed Xiaomi, OPPO, and Apple to become the number one in 5G smartphone shipments in the Asia-Pacific region. vivo has successfully taken advantage of Huawei's declining market share (Huawei sold more than half of 5G smartphones in the Asia-Pacific region in Q2 2020, a year ago). Leading technology and affordable prices have made vivo smartphones, such as iQOOO U3 5G and iQOOO 7 5G, the most popular 5G devices in the region.
Xiaomi ranked second in smartphone shipments in Asia Pacific in Q2 2021. Driven by China, Xiaomi's 5G smartphone shipments grew at an average annual rate of 286% in Q2 2021. Xiaomi's Redmi series smartphones, such as Redmi Note 9 5G and Note 9 Pro 5G, and Mi series 5G smartphones, such as Xiaomi 10 Youth Edition 5G, are Xiaomi's popular models.
In addition, other Chinese manufacturers are not standing still, with OPPO ranking third in shipments of 5G smartphones in Asia Pacific. SA said: "OPPO is looking forward to an exciting quarter in Q3 2021 as its Reno 6 series will launch three new 5G models. Vivo is likely to peak in China in Q2 2021 and will need to look to other 5G markets in the region, such as South Korea and Japan, to drive future growth."
