The $2.2 billion GIGACHIP Semiconductor 12-inch CIS project has been capped, and the first phase may be put into production next year

On August 16, the topping-out ceremony of GIGACHIP Semiconductor's 12-inch CIS integrated circuit special process research and industrialization project was held in the Lingang New Area of ​​Shanghai.

GalaxyCore Semiconductor (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. is established in the Lingang New Area of ​​China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone with a registered capital of RMB 3 billion. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of GalaxyCore Microelectronics (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. and is affiliated to GalaxyCore Inc.

GalaxyCore is committed to the design, development and sales of CMOS image sensor chips and display driver chips. In 2020, GalaxyCore accounted for 29.7% of the global CMOS image sensor market with 2.04 billion units shipped, ranking first.

The Gpixel Semiconductor project was officially signed in March 2020, and construction officially started in November of the same year, with equipment planned to be moved in within the year.

According to the news from Shanghai Lingang Industrial Zone, GalaxyCore Semiconductor plans to invest USD 2.2 billion to build a 12-inch CIS integrated circuit special process production line with an annual output of 720,000 pieces in Lingang. The first phase is scheduled to be put into operation in 2022. The establishment of this production line will mark the successful transformation of GalaxyCore to the Fablite model integrating design, R&D, manufacturing and testing.
