According to foreign media reports, Xiaomi topped the European smartphone shipment list for the first time. The company led the market in the second quarter of this year, with its market share reaching 25% of total shipments.
According to a report by Strategy Analytics, Xiaomi achieved 14% year-on-year growth in the second quarter of 2021. During the quarter, the company shipped a total of 12.7 million units.
Boris Metodiev, Associate Director at Strategy Analytics, said: “The European smartphone market performed strongly this quarter after collapsing in 2020. The highlight of the quarter was Xiaomi becoming the number one manufacturer in terms of shipments for the first time. Xiaomi has achieved great success in countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Spain and Italy, and has found customers who are eager for feature-rich, cost-effective smartphones.
Chinese brands grew during the period, while South Korean giant Samsung saw a 7% year-on-year decline in sales in Europe, shipping 12 million units in the second quarter. It also faces stiff competition from Apple in the premium segment. Apple, on the other hand, saw 16% year-on-year growth in the period, shipping around 10 million units in Europe.
