According to MacRumors, Apple's latest document has deleted support for Apple Music's built-in speaker Dolby Atmos spatial audio on the iPhone XR, iPad mini 5, iPad Air 3, and iPad 6th to 8th generations (basic iPads released from 2018 to 2020).
So, will iPhone XR say goodbye to Dolby Atmos? Will it affect the function of AirPods Pro changing the volume of sound as the head turns? How to use iPhone XR to play Dolby Atmos audio? APPSO conducted some tests to solve the above problems.
Is there no Dolby Atmos when using Apple Music on iPhone XR and other models?
of course not.
First, we upgraded the iPhone XR (not on the list) and the iPhone 12 mini (in the list) to the latest beta system. In the "Settings > Music > Dolby Atmos" interface, we can see that there is no difference between the two. Both can set up Dolby Atmos, so what functions of devices such as iPhone XR were deleted in this document?

In fact, there are some misunderstandings here. What the iPhone XR loses is not the spatial audio of Dolby Atmos, but the automatic activation function of Dolby Atmos spatial audio when playing externally.
To listen to Dolby Atmos on your iPhone or iPad, you need to meet the following conditions:
Update your iPhone or iPad to iOS or iPadOS 14.6 or later; in Settings > Music > Spatial Audio, select Automatic or Always On.
If you select "Automatic", Apple Music will automatically play in Dolby Atmos when supported. However, for automatic playback, the device must meet certain conditions, one of which is the model restriction. In the domestic document list, models such as iPhone XR still exist, but in the US official website, these models have been deleted.

Therefore, if you use iPhone XR to play Apple Music, you cannot automatically turn on spatial audio that supports Dolby Atmos.
In automatic mode, we used iPhone XR and iPhone 12 mini, opened the test song New Normal of Apple Music spatial audio experience, and listened to them at the maximum volume. We can feel a slight difference between the two, but it is not obvious. After all, the iPhone's speaker is small in size, so it cannot experience the best effect of Dolby Atmos spatial audio.
