On June 24, Hua Hong Semiconductor Co., Ltd. and Star Semiconductor held the "Hua Hong Semiconductor Automotive Grade IGBT and 12-inch IGBT Mass Production Ceremony" and signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The two parties jointly announced that the high-power automotive grade IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor) chip jointly created has passed the terminal car enterprise product verification and has been widely used in the automotive application market such as power units.

It is understood that during the years of cooperation between Hua Hong Semiconductor and Star Semiconductor, both parties have fully utilized their respective advantages and resources, strengthened technological innovation, and devoted themselves to the research and development and production of IGBT in multiple fields such as automotive electronics, frequency converters, inverter welding machines, UPS, photovoltaic/wind power generation, and white appliances. At present, a series of products with multiple voltages such as 650V, 750V, 950V, 1200V, and 1700V have passed the end-customer assessment and achieved mass production, with the performance level reaching the industry's first-class level. The cumulative shipments of IGBTs from the cooperation between the two parties have exceeded 250,000 pieces of equivalent 8-inch wafers.
In addition, Hua Hong Semiconductor has nearly 20 years of experience in power device research and development. In view of the special requirements of automotive-grade IGBTs, such as high current, low loss, high temperature resistance, and higher safety, the company has adopted more stringent management and control, and built a good process platform for the research and development of automotive-grade IGBT chips. Through cooperation with Star Semiconductor, it has successfully developed a technical solution for automotive IGBTs. With full optimization in various aspects such as high current, high reliability, and small size, the products are highly competitive in the application fields of motor controllers, on-board chargers OBC, electric controls for air-conditioning electric compressors, and warm air heating PTC.
In 2020, Hua Hong Semiconductor introduced 8-inch IGBT technology into the 12-inch production line. After less than a year of research and development, it successfully established the IGBT wafer production process on the 12-inch production line. The product successfully passed customer certification, becoming the world's first pure wafer foundry company to mass-produce advanced trench gate field stop (FS) IGBTs on both 8-inch and 12-inch production lines. Hua Hong Semiconductor's four "8-inch + 12-inch" factories have all passed the IATF 16949 automotive quality management system certification. At present, Hua Hong Semiconductor's 12-inch IGBT output has exceeded 10,000 wafers, and all electrical parameters have maintained excellent levels.
