Scan the QR code to place an order and you are forced to follow the official account: Can you say NO!

如今这个时代，拿出手机扫一扫，很多事儿就能在指尖完成，但相信很多人在外出就餐时都曾遇到过被告知只能扫码点单的问题，更有甚者还必须关注公众号才能吃饭。

So, do businesses have the right to do this?

In fact, Article 9, Paragraph 2 of the Consumer Rights Protection Law has long made it clear that “consumers have the right to independently choose the business operators who provide goods or services, independently choose the types of goods or service methods, and independently decide whether to purchase or not purchase any goods or accept or not accept any service.”

In other words, if merchants force consumers to scan codes before placing orders, it is undoubtedly illegal.

Even if consumers voluntarily scan the code to place an order, some restaurants force them to follow a public account and even fill in personal privacy information such as name and mobile phone number, which is a serious violation of the law.

Pursuant to the relevant provisions of Article 29 of the Consumer Protection Law, operators have the obligation to clearly inform consumers and keep their personal information confidential when collecting consumers' personal information, and shall not send commercial information to consumers if consumers explicitly refuse.
