Apple's upcoming "Apple Glasses" may use a system that can record pupil dilation to change brightness, provide a comfortable viewing experience, and monitor the user's attention. It is reported that one of the problems that has delayed the release of "Apple Glasses" is that they must be comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

But in addition to lightweight frames, Apple is also studying how to adjust what the user sees based on the user's reaction. Recently disclosed Apple patent applications propose simply changing the brightness, or actually changing the content displayed on the glasses based on the wearer's interests. The Apple patent titled "Using Brightness Changes to Determine User Characteristics" involves detecting and measuring the physiological characteristics of users wearing Apple Glasses.

Apple said that the state of the user when watching content on an electronic device will have a significant impact on the user's experience, and content creators and display systems may be able to provide a better and more targeted user experience. According to this patent, Apple glasses can also track the user's eyes and evaluate specific types of physiological reactions of the user to watching content. For example, the user's pupils may automatically experience dilation or contraction in response to changes in content brightness, such as when the content changes from mostly dim to mostly bright. The user's physiological response to this content change may depend on the user's state.

Apple says that if the brightness of the content increases while the user is concentrating on work, the pupil may react more slowly and to a smaller extent than when the user is tired. Improve the user's enjoyment and/or comprehension by providing alternative content and/or suggestions based on detecting the user's state, for example, prompting the user to take a break.

The patent application details the steps this tracking and analysis might go through in different situations, as well as dealing with different changes in brightness. In each case, though, the core idea is the same: if you're tired or distracted, Apple Glasses should give developers the ability to change what you're seeing.

The second newly exposed Apple patent application is "Electronic device with display having internal light reflection suppression function". This focuses on solving the seemingly simple problem of how light is reflected inside Apple Glasses, but the overall purpose is to reduce the discomfort when wearing "Apple Glasses". Apple's suggestion is to use "reflection suppression structures". These can be "anti-reflective layers and/or polarizers" layers, using thin film interference filters "or "micro lenses".
