Qualcomm today shared the benchmark test results of the Snapdragon 888 SoC, which showed that it could not beat the A14 chip in the iPhone 12 and the A13 chip in the iPhone 11.
AnandTech compared Qualcomm's scores with those of Apple devices, with the iPhone coming out on top in the Geekbench 5 and GFXBench tests.
The Snapdragon 888 chip achieved a single-core score of 1,135 and a multi-core score of 3,794, while the iPhone 12 Pro with the A14 chip achieved a single-core score of 1,603 and a multi-core score of 4,187.
In the GFXBench test, which measures GPU performance, Samsung scored 86 (in frame rate), while the iPhone 12 Pro scored 102.24. Sustained performance is currently unclear, depending on the power consumption of the chip, but AnandTech believes that if the power consumption is competitive, the Snapdragon 888 may be able to compete with the iPhone.
The Snapdragon 888 chip isn’t as powerful as the A13 or A14 chips, but it’s a significant improvement over the previous generation Snapdragon chips used in current flagship Android smartphones. It offers a 25% increase in CPU performance and a 35% increase in GPU performance.
