On the morning of December 9, Apple added a Lightning to 3.5mm jack two-way audio cable to its official website store. The accessory is priced at US$35 (RMB 279 in China) and its function is to turn the newly launched AirPods Max into wired headphones.

The Lightning to 3.5mm audio cable is a fairly simple product that debuted on the Apple Online Store on Tuesday and appears as a recommended product when ordering AirPods Max. The cable is 1.2 meters long and has a 3.5mm headphone jack on one end and a Lightning connector on the other.

Apple recommends using it to turn headphones such as AirPods Max or Beats Solo Pro into wired headphones. Connecting to a 3.5mm audio source will allow wireless headphones to be used on hardware without a wireless connection, such as on airplanes. With this cable and adapter, AirPods Max can be used with the headphone jack on airplane seats.

This line is available in black and white, priced at $35, and priced at RMB 279 in China.

The cable can also be used for other purposes, including connecting an iPhone or iPad as an output audio source to a home stereo or vehicle's audio input port. As a bidirectional cable, it can be used with both audio-in and audio-out ports, so it can potentially be used to record audio to an iOS device.
