Canalys: iPad still leads the global tablet market in the third quarter

According to market research firm Canalys, Apple continued to maintain its dominance in the global tablet market in the third quarter of 2020, with iPad shipments estimated to have increased 47% year-on-year due to the continued impact of the epidemic.

Estimates show that Apple sold 15.2 million iPads in the third quarter, up from 10.4 million in the same period last year, accounting for 34.4% of the global market share.

As for the Android camp, Samsung achieved substantial growth in the third quarter, selling approximately 9 million Galaxy tablets, accounting for 20.4% of the market share, a year-on-year increase of 79.8%; Huawei ranked third in the world with sales of 5.1 million tablets, with a market share of 11.5%; Amazon and Lenovo ranked fourth and fifth, with shipments of 5 million and 4.2 million respectively. Amazon accounted for 11.3% of the market share, while Lenovo took 9.1% of the market share.

Canalys' estimates put Apple in second place among global PC vendors because they include tablets in their PC market statistics.

The pandemic has forced many people to work from home or take school classes online, allowing Apple to continue to maintain its leading position in the tablet computer field. At the launch event in September this year, Apple also launched the new full-screen iPad Air 4 and the 10.2-inch entry-level iPad 8th generation equipped with the A12 Bionic chip.

When reporting fourth-quarter 2020 earnings, Apple revealed that iPad hardware revenue exceeded expectations, reaching $6.8 billion, significantly higher than $4.66 billion in the same period last year.
