Strategy Analytics' latest research report points out that by 2020, global 5G smartphone sales will surge 1,300% to a record 250 million units. Apple iPhone, Huawei and Samsung are driving the growth of the 5G smartphone market this year.
Ville-Petteri Ukonaho, Associate Director at Strategy Analytics, said: “We forecast global 5G smartphone sales to surge 1,300% from 18 million units in 2019 to a record 250 million in 2020. The 5G segment is the main engine of smartphone market growth now and over the next decade.”
Ken Hyers, Director at Strategy Analytics, added: “In 2020, 250 million 5G smartphones will be sold worldwide. China and the United States are the two largest 5G markets. Apple iPhone, Huawei and Samsung are the top three brands and will together account for two-thirds of global 5G smartphone sales this year.”
Ville-Petteri Ukonaho, Associate Director at Strategy Analytics, added: “The 5G segment is the fastest growing part of the smartphone industry today, but several challenges remain. Many 5G smartphone models are too expensive, most 5G operator networks are incomplete, and waves of COVID-19 are leading to weak consumption in Western markets such as the US and Europe.”
