On the morning of September 22, today, the well-known foreign disassembly station iFixit disassembled the recently released Apple Watch Series 6. Although the new Series 6 is very similar to the 5th generation in appearance, the disassembly proves that it has made many internal adjustments and modifications, such as adding a blood oxygen sensor and a slightly larger battery.
The new Apple Watch opens the interior by flipping the screen on the left like the iPhone. Since the Force Touch pressure-sensitive screen has been removed, there is no corresponding gasket assembly, which makes it easier to disassemble the new Apple Watch. iFixit also found that there are fewer cables, a simpler design, and easier repairs.
The 44mm version of the Apple Watch Series 6 uses a 1.17Wh battery, which is 3.5% more than the previous generation. The 40mm model has a battery capacity of 1.024Wh, which is 8.5% more than the previous generation.
The Apple Watch Series 6 has a larger Taptic Engine and a slightly modified frame with narrower edges. This adjustment, along with the removal of Force Touch, also explains why this year's watch is thinner (10.4mm, compared to 10.74mm last year).
Overall, iFixit was impressed with Apple’s ability to fit new sensors, a larger battery, and a larger Taptic Engine into a thinner enclosure, noting:
“They just keep polishing the product to make it look better and better, and barely tell you how much is inside, with all the focus on the health features.”
All Apple Watch components
The 2020 Apple Watch Series 6 finally received a repairability score of 6 out of 10, which is not a low score. This is mainly due to the easier screen replacement and battery replacement, but you still need to pay attention to the special three-point screws and the relatively fragile cables directly installed on the S6 package chip.
