On the morning of September 18, Apple launched the new Apple Watch Series 6 on Wednesday. One of its important features is blood oxygen detection. According to Apple's official website, this feature will be launched in more than 100 countries and regions.
According to the Apple Watch official website, blood oxygen detection will be launched in 109 countries/regions. Earlier, at the press conference, the company said that blood oxygen detection will be available in "certain countries" on September 18. Because this press conference was recorded in advance, the information on the official website should be the latest.
In addition to the United States and major EU countries, the feature will also debut in important countries such as China, Japan, and India.
The reason for mentioning this is that due to restrictions in some countries, the corresponding markets sometimes get new health-related features months or months after they are released domestically. Apple's ECG electrocardiogram function is a not-so-good example, because it falls within the scope of medical devices, and the function requires approval from the relevant departments. This resulted in ECG only being approved by regulators in South Korea last month, nearly two years after its debut in the United States in 2018. Recently, Japanese regulators also approved the Apple Watch's ECG solution in September after three months of evaluation. The Chinese market has not been able to use it until now.
Blood oxygen monitoring is not as tightly controlled as the ECG function, which may be a good thing for users.
Apple Watch Series 6 was unveiled at an online event early Tuesday morning Beijing time. In addition to the blood oxygen sensor, this latest wearable device from Apple also features a new generation of S6 chips, a brighter screen, and new colors and options. Users can pre-order and purchase it starting Friday.
