AMD President Lisa Su wins this year's SIA Robert Noyce Award

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced yesterday that AMD President and CEO Dr. Lisa Su is the 2020 recipient of SIA's highest honor, the Robert N. Noyce Award. SIA awards the Robert N. Noyce Award annually to recognize a leader who has made outstanding contributions to the semiconductor industry in the fields of technology or public policy. Su will receive the award at the SIA Leadership Forum and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 19 this year.


Dr. Lisa Su is AMD’s president and chief executive officer, a position she has held since October 2014, and also serves on AMD’s board of directors. Prior to assuming the role of president and chief executive officer, Dr. Su served as chief operating officer from July 2014 to October 2014, responsible for integrating AMD’s business units, sales, global operations, and infrastructure enablement teams into a single market-facing organization with full responsibility for product strategy and execution. Dr. Su joined AMD in January 2012, initially as senior vice president and general manager of global business units, responsible for driving end-to-end business execution of AMD products and solutions.

Prior to joining AMD, Dr. Su worked at Freescale Semiconductor, a semiconductor manufacturing company, as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Network and Multimedia Division, responsible for global strategy, marketing and engineering design of the company's embedded communications and application processor businesses. Dr. Su joined Freescale in 2007 as Chief Technology Officer, leading the company's technology roadmap development and R&D work.

Prior to joining Freescale, Dr. Su worked at IBM for 13 years, holding leadership positions in various engineering and business departments, including Vice President of the Semiconductor R&D Center, responsible for IBM's silicon technology strategic development direction, joint development alliances and semiconductor R&D operations. Prior to joining IBM, Dr. Su worked as a technical specialist at the Semiconductor Process and Component Center of Texas Instruments from 1994 to 1995.

Dr. Su holds bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She has authored more than 40 technical articles and was elected a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 2009. In 2018, Dr. Su was elected to the National Academy of Engineering, named "Business Person of the Year" by Fortune magazine, and received the prestigious "Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award". In 2019, Dr. Su was selected as one of "Barron's" magazine's "50 Best CEOs in the World", and was also selected to Fortune magazine's "Most Powerful Women in Business" list and the "Bloomberg 50" list of the most influential people of the year. In 2020, Dr. Su was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Su is a member of the board of directors of Cisco Inc., a director of the Semiconductor Industry Association, and the chairman of the board of directors of the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA).
