Bloomberg: Apple may ship 80 million 5G iPhones this year

Apple has asked suppliers to produce at least 75 million 5G iPhones later this year, roughly in line with last year's release schedule, according to Bloomberg News, suggesting that demand for the iPhone has not waned amid the coronavirus pandemic and economic recession.

According to people familiar with the matter, Apple plans to launch four new models supporting 5G networks in October, equipped with different screen sizes for users to choose from, and Apple expects iPhone 12 series shipments to reach 80 million units in 2020. In addition, the person familiar with the matter said that at this fall's conference, Apple is also preparing to launch an iPad Air with a full-screen design, two Apple Watches, and its first in-ear headphones outside the Beats brand.

The report said Apple is also working on a HomePod with fewer built-in speakers, which could help Apple re-enter the smart home market at a lower price. In addition, Apple has been developing a new Apple TV box with a faster processor for improved gaming performance and an upgraded remote control, but the device may not be available until next year.

It is reported that TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in a previous report that the new iPhone series will include three sizes and four models, including: 5.4-inch OLED iPhone (rear dual-camera), 6.1-inch OLED iPhone (rear dual-camera), 6.1-inch OLED iPhone (rear triple-camera + ToF) and 6.7-inch OLED iPhone (rear triple-camera + ToF). In addition, Kuo predicts that the wide-angle lens of the new iPhone series will be upgraded from 6P to 7P, except that the wide-angle camera of the 6.7-inch OLED iPhone (rear triple-camera + ToF) uses a 1/1.9” and 7P lens specification and supports Sensor shift. The wide-angle cameras of the other three models all use 1/2.6” and 7P lens specifications.
