Apple didn’t change the design of the first and second generation AirPods when they were first unveiled because they were becoming increasingly popular, and why change a design that worked for the company? Consistent design elements were maintained between the two versions, including longer ear handles, non-adjustable ear tips, etc. Thankfully, the company changed this significantly when it launched the pricier and more feature-rich AirPods Pro. Now, according to a whistleblower, it looks like the AirPods 3 may also have aesthetic and design changes.

A tweet from LeaksApplePro suggests that Apple will ditch the design of the first and second-generation AirPods. While we don't expect the tech giant to stick with the same design across multiple products, the Twitter account didn't specify that the new AirPods will feature a different aesthetic, but a previous report specifically talked about the possible internals of the AirPods 3. Details in the report mention that the AirPods 3 will feature a complex SiP packaging, allowing the upcoming wireless earbuds to feature a more compact design like the AirPods Pro while also offering more functionality. It's possible that with this new design, Apple will eventually add noise cancellation and transparency modes to the AirPods 3 as well.
