On August 21, according to TSMC’s official website, as of July this year, TSMC has produced more than 1 billion fully functional and defect-free 7nm chips.
TSMC said that its 7nm process technology was put into large-scale production in April 2018. It has now served more than dozens of customers around the world and created more than 100 chip products. If the 1 billion 7nm chips it produces are rolled out, they will be enough to cover 13 Manhattans. Each 7nm chip has more than 1 billion transistors.
According to data, TSMC's first batch of 7nm products include Bitmain's mining machine chips, Xilinx's FPGA chips, Apple A12, Huawei Kirin 980, etc.
TSMC said that large-scale and efficient production is the key to improving its product quality and reliability. As the first company to support 7nm process technology and mass production, TSMC's output and quality have surpassed other semiconductor manufacturers. Large-scale production has also promoted TSMC's technological accumulation and progress. At present, TSMC has mastered the most advanced 5nm process technology and is capable of mass production.
TSMC further pointed out that the speed at which the company's 7nm process increased its production capacity after it went into production exceeded any previous process.
It is worth mentioning that TSMC's 7nm chips can be used not only in computers, tablets and mobile phones, but also in data centers, automobiles, etc. TSMC pointed out that automotive customers have the highest quality requirements and they hope to use the most advanced technology to support vehicle assistance systems and autonomous driving functions.
