In a recent interview with Wired, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei said the company plans to launch a new "Nord"-branded phone in the U.S. later this year. He also added that the device may be different from the one that was recently unveiled.
At its July 21 event, OnePlus said it had no plans to bring the Nord to the U.S. While the company has launched a beta program in the U.S., inviting 50 users to review the smartphone, those devices are all European models — which may have connectivity issues due to the lack of certain hardware.
This indicates that OnePlus Nord will not be just one phone like OnePlus X, but will become a series. In the future, OnePlus may follow the update frequency of flagship models and launch a "Nord" branded mid-range model every year. With smartphone prices soaring year by year, a mid-range smartphone under $500 is a more reasonable choice for customers who do not want to spend $1,000 on a smartphone.
