Marco Cassis, President of Marketing, Communications and Development Strategy at STMicroelectronics, said in his opening speech at SEMICON CHINA 2020 that smart transportation, power energy management, IoT and 5G are long-term development trends in the industry.
Smart transportation will provide users with higher safety protection, reduce commuting time, and reduce carbon emissions worldwide, while the automotive industry is facing the trend of digitalization and electrification.
Drivers' safety awareness, government legislation, and safety demands have promoted the development of the industry. There have also been significant changes in the interior of the car. The development of configurable software and autonomous driving has led to an improvement in the data processing capabilities inside the car, while cloud services will provide interoperability.
The world's energy demand is increasing, and energy consumption is also increasing. The transportation industry accounts for a relatively high proportion of energy demand. Improving the operational efficiency of infrastructure, reducing the use of fossil fuels, and accelerating the construction of smart grids and other facilities are the focus of the energy industry.
The high demand for energy has also posed new challenges to the power system, and the semiconductor industry will help the industry develop, reduce system costs, improve efficiency and performance, reduce energy losses, miniaturize systems, and better integrate hardware and software.
Currently, there are billions of cloud-connected devices serving enterprises and individuals. 5G and IoT have very good prospects. In the future, they will penetrate into all aspects of life, improve the operational efficiency of production facilities, and promote the development of industries such as industry, education, and logistics.
