Apple has acquired Xnor.ai, a Seattle startup specializing in on-device artificial intelligence (AI), according to people familiar with the matter.

　　Sources said Apple acquired Xnor.ai for about $200 million. Although Apple and Xnor.ai declined to comment on the news, the Xnor.ai website has basically been offline.

　　Xnor.ai's technology allows companies to execute deep learning algorithms locally on smartphones and other portable devices, rather than requiring these calculations to be performed in a cloud service.
