According to The Inquirer, compared to Google's Android platform, which supports direct access to NFC chips, the iPhone is more cunning and has not yet opened up the access platform. For this behavior, the European Competition Commission may launch an antitrust investigation into Apple Pay.

The iPhone currently does not support direct access to the NFC chip, forcing payment providers to access it through the Apple Wallet and Apple Pay apps.

For example, it is reported that in the UK, the Android version of the Barclays online banking app can be directly set as the default payment service provider; on the iPhone, Apple Pay is still unavoidable. In addition, the Android version of the Barclays online banking app can display its own UI at the top, but the iOS version of the app can only display Apple Wallet.

In response, Apple often uses "security considerations" as an excuse, and states that if the APP directly makes a payment request, it can also be achieved by scanning a QR code.

The European Competition Commission is in dialogue with industry operators to find possible "monopoly and abuse" in response to this behavior. People familiar with the matter said that European regulators regard Apple's behavior as "possible anti-competitive market behavior."
