In 2018, according to overseas media reports, Xiaomi FOCO, a dual-screen mobile phone, was exposed overseas. Due to the cancellation of the front camera, the screen-to-body ratio reached 100%, which is an effect pursued by many mobile phones. It is also the original intention of the current hidden camera and sliding cover design. In order to achieve a higher screen-to-body ratio, various designs have also emerged.
At present, users' requirements for electronic device camera functions and full-screen design are gradually increasing. How to effectively increase the screen-to-body ratio is really a headache for major manufacturers to meet user needs. Today we will introduce a new patent from Xiaomi, which can solve these two problems very well.
On July 13, 2018, Xiaomi applied for an invention patent called "electronic device" (application number: 201821119109.7), and the applicant was Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd.
Based on the currently disclosed patent information, let’s take a look at this full-screen design.
As shown in the figure above, the front view of the electronic device shows that the camera is removed from the front of the mobile phone in this invention, thus forming an extremely high screen-to-body ratio and avoiding a series of problems such as camera holes. For users, it not only improves the appearance, but also increases the operable area. However, without a front camera, how can this phone take selfies?
Don’t worry, let’s continue reading.
As shown in the above figure, this is a back view of the electronic device. It can be seen that a portion of the flexible display panel can be adhered to the front surface of the device body to form a front full-screen display area, and can be bent along the edge of the front surface to be adhered to the second surface 22 of the device body to form a second display area 102.
The front surface and the second surface are arranged on opposite sides of the device body, and the lens of the camera module 3 and any one of the front display area and the second display area are located on the same side of the electronic device. The lens of the camera module can be located on the same side of the electronic device as the second display area, and the user can realize the selfie function through the cooperation between the second display area and the camera module, so that there is no need to set the camera module on one side of the front display area, which is conducive to improving the screen ratio of the front display area.
That is, the back panel of the device is expanded with a flexible screen, so that the rear lens can also serve as the front lens. When taking selfies, you only need to use the display screen on the back panel. This not only saves the number of camera modules, but is also a major innovation for the current full-screen design.
In addition, in order to ensure the normal use of other functions, some sensors are installed on the side of the device.
As shown in the figure above, the electronic device may further include a detection component 4, which may be located on the same side of the electronic device as the camera module. As shown in this example figure, the second display area, the camera module, and the detection component are located on the same side of the electronic device, thereby avoiding occupying the space on the side where the front display area is located, which is conducive to the centralized layout of electronic components and facilitates increasing the screen-to-body ratio of the front display area.
The above is Xiaomi's full-screen design patent. The design concept of this product lies in bold innovation. When other manufacturers are trying to hide the front camera, Xiaomi boldly cancels the front camera and uses dual-screen display to achieve the full-screen effect while combining the functions of a series of front cameras such as selfies. I believe that such a design will definitely win the favor of users!
