Recently, the 2019 China Automobile Industry Development (TEDA) International Forum was held in Tianjin. Leaders of relevant ministries and commissions expressed their views on key topics such as the future direction of automobile development and breakthroughs in core technologies.

According to the First Electric report, Lu Weisheng, Director of the Industrial Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that driven by a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, the automobile industry with a history of more than 100 years is rejuvenating, building a new ecology, and experiencing new changes. Electrification and intelligence have further profoundly changed the traditional production form, technical architecture, manufacturing process and service mode of automobiles, and will also reconstruct the automobile industry chain and value chain. To this end, the National Development and Reform Commission will do a good job in policy and planning connection, strengthen top-level design and planning, and speed up the introduction of smart car development strategies.

He also stressed that in terms of core technology research, we should comprehensively sort out technical bottlenecks, focus on the key task list, cultivate and introduce enterprises and enterprise consortia, build innovative development platforms and industrial coordination systems, and enhance industrial technology capabilities and levels. At the same time, we should make good use of various resources, concentrate superior forces, and break through a number of core technologies in key components such as new power batteries, electronic control systems, chips, etc. as soon as possible to demonstrate core competitiveness.

Song Qiuling, a first-level inspector of the Economic Construction Department of the Ministry of Finance, pointed out that fuel cell vehicles and pure electric vehicles have different technical characteristics and are suitable for their own application scenarios. In the future, they should complement and coexist rather than replace each other. At present, expanding and strengthening the new energy vehicle industry has important practical significance for promoting the intelligentization and networking of automobiles.

Song Qiuling also pointed out that the current performance of power batteries still cannot fully meet the demand, and some key components such as automotive control chips and motor controllers rely on imports. With the trend of de-globalization, there is a possibility of supply chain disruption, and breakthroughs need to be made.
