Regarding the price cut of the P30 series, industry chain sources revealed that this wave of price cuts is mainly to make way for the upcoming Mate 30 series, and at the same time it can also increase the sales of the series again by reducing prices. Currently, the monthly shipments of the P30 series are at least over one million units.

On August 11, Huawei announced a price reduction promotion for the P30 series, with the P30 reduced by 300 yuan and the P30 Pro reduced by 500 yuan. This price reduction will undoubtedly surge its sales.

Cost-effectiveness is further highlighted

The price reduction details announced by Huawei are that all three P30 models are reduced by 300 yuan, that is, 6GB+128GB is 3688 yuan, 8+128GB is 3988 yuan and 8+256GB is 4488 yuan; while the three P30 Pro models are all reduced by 500 yuan. After the price reduction, the prices of the 8+128GB version, 8+256GB version and 8+512GB version are 4988 yuan, 5488 yuan and 6288 yuan respectively.

In terms of overall configuration, the P30 series will have a more outstanding price-performance ratio after the price reduction. It is equipped with the Kirin 980 processor, a rear 40-megapixel ultra-sensitive camera + a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera + an 8-megapixel telephoto triple-camera combination, and a new RYYB filter array design. It is definitely one of the most powerful camera phones currently available.

Mate 30 series is ready

According to information from the industry chain, the price reduction of the P30 series is mainly to make way for the upcoming Mate 30 series in terms of price range. The latter will also have two versions, one covering the 4,500 yuan price range, and the other enhanced version covering the 6,000 yuan price range. This also shows Huawei's determination to continue to focus on high-end models.

It is reported that Huawei's Mate 30 series has entered the design certification stage. Its first Kirin 985 processor will be released at the IFA conference in Germany in September. As an upgraded version of Kirin 980, this new processor will once again become the world's first commercial 7nm+ process processor for mobile phone manufacturers. Apple's A13 will be outsourced to TSMC together with it. Compared with the previous generation 7nm process, the new 7nm+ performs better in power consumption and performance, with a theoretical improvement of about 20%.

In addition, Yu Chengdong said in a previous interview that the Mate 30 series is in progress, and it will have a version that supports 5G networks and will have better performance in photography and artificial intelligence.

Accelerate the acquisition of Apple users

Industry chain sources revealed that for products of this magnitude in the P30 series, price cuts mean that Huawei wants more sales, and after entering the 3,500 yuan range, it is bound to create greater resistance to the sales of the iPhone XR, which is currently Apple's best-selling model, mainly because it is relatively cheap at more than 4,000 yuan. Of course, the product has obvious shortcomings, such as only a single rear camera and a thicker front bezel, and its appearance is still much worse than that of the iPhone XS series.

Data from previous statistical agencies showed that Apple sold 6 million iPhones in the Chinese market in the second quarter of this year, of which 3 million were iPhone XRs. Huawei's P30 series can ship 2 million units in the domestic market in a month, so this price cut is bound to have an impact on Apple, which is what Huawei wants to see, in order to snatch iPhone users.

In addition, in the current Chinese smartphone market, Huawei has become the absolute king in the price range of US$600-800 (approximately RMB 4,100-5,500), with a market share of 48%, far exceeding Apple's 37%, and the gap between the two is widening. As the brand improves, more and more iPhone users are switching to Huawei.

Strive to be the world's number one next year

At the Huawei Developer Conference, Richard Yu said that due to some special factors, Huawei will have no problem shipping 240 million smartphones this year. Based on this shipment volume, they will continue to suppress Apple and secure their second place in the world. Richard Yu also revealed: "The original plan was to be the world's number one this year, but now it seems that we can hold the second place more firmly this year."

Huawei's half-year results released recently show that in the first half of this year, Huawei's mobile phone shipments were 118 million units, a year-on-year increase of 24%. Yu Chengdong said that if there were no sanctions, the growth would be faster. According to the original plan, the shipments from the second quarter to the fourth quarter of this year were expected to be 70 million, 80 million and 90 million units, and 300-310 million units could be achieved this year. Now affected by external factors, the shipments this year may be around 240 million units.

Yu Chengdong also admitted that Huawei's mobile phones are in the process of addressing unfavorable external factors, and the results are good so far. It is expected that the total shipments next year will surpass Samsung and become the world's number one.
