MediaTek's second quarter profit increased by 90%, gross profit margin hit a 15-quarter high

IC design company MediaTek held an online earnings conference today (31st). Its quarterly consolidated revenue was NT$61.567 billion (same unit below), up 16.8% from the previous quarter and 1.8% from the same period last year. Its gross profit margin was 41.9%, up 1.2 percentage points from the previous quarter and 3.7 percentage points from the same period last year. Its net profit after tax was NT$6.503 billion, up 90.4% from the previous quarter, but down 12.6% from the same period last year. Its earnings per share were NT$4.11, in line with the company's previous financial forecast.

MediaTek pointed out that the revenue and sales increased this quarter, mainly due to the seasonal demand recovery of various consumer electronics such as the Internet of Things, customized chips and power management chips. The gross profit margin was in line with market expectations and increased compared with the previous quarter and the same period last year due to the optimization of product portfolio.

Due to continued investment in research and development, operating expenses in the second quarter reached 19.647 billion yuan. In terms of inventory, the net inventory in this quarter was 31.096 billion yuan, and the inventory turnover days were 78 days, which was lower than 89 days in the previous quarter and 86 days in the same period last year.
