Yesterday, Honor 9X was officially launched and achieved gratifying results. After achieving over 200 million sales in 2 minutes, it set a new record for the first sale of new mobile phones on Tmall and JD.com in 2019!
Taking advantage of the hot sales momentum of Honor 9X, Xiong Junmin, Vice President of Honor Business Department (Product), began to popularize the technological breakthrough of the machine to netizens - flash memory technology:
Honor 9X uses UFS 2.1 technology, which stands for Universal Flash Storage, an international standard for flash memory. Compared with the eMMC standard many years ago, UFS has undergone a complete transformation from the physical level to the flash memory control method. In addition to the simple improvement in read and write speed, the following are the main evolutions that are easier to understand:
1. Data transmission has been changed from parallel signals to more advanced serial signals, similar to the evolution of computer hard disk interfaces from PATA interfaces to SATA interfaces, which greatly increases the upper limit of read and write bandwidth;
2. Changing from half-duplex to full-duplex, reading and writing can be done at the same time, while eMMC can only do one at a time, which is prone to traffic jams;
The UFS 2.1 flash memory standard used by the Honor 9X adopts dual data channels, with a total data bandwidth of 1200 MB/s, which has greatly exceeded the SATA 6Ggbps interface standard of computer hard drives. However, this bandwidth standard is only a theoretical upper limit value, and the actual speed of flash memory of different mobile phones is also related to the flash memory chip itself and the file system used by the mobile phone.
Honor 9X uses the EROFS super file system that Huawei strongly advocates. The random read speed is increased by 20%, and the system space is saved by 14%. In addition, Honor 9X uses dual-channel flash memory technology, so its performance is better than most Android phones.
Xiong Junmin also mentioned that according to the objective evaluation results of third-party media, the continuous reading speed of Honor 9X's UFS 2.1 flash memory reached 905MB/s, and the continuous writing speed reached 187MB/s. As you can see from the ranking, this value is a real flagship mobile phone level. However, more mobile phones from other manufacturers, even some flagship models, have not reached the performance of Honor 9X even though they also use UFS 2.1.
Judging from Xiong Junmin’s popular science, we have to admire Honor for optimizing UFS2.1 so well!
