According to Korean media reports, Nvidia will outsource the production of its GPUs to Samsung using the 7nm extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) process.
However, according to the Economic Daily, Morgan Stanley's latest report pointed out that the competition between Samsung and TSMC in high-process technology is nothing new, but the supply chain pointed out that Samsung should strive for Nvidia's 8nm and 10nm orders, while Nvidia's 7nm orders should still be placed with TSMC.
Morgan Stanley's latest report only has two comments, but the content quickly and accurately emphasizes that Samsung's 7nm process started later than TSMC, and that it should have an advantage in grabbing TSMC's orders with 8nm and 10nm. Therefore, regarding the report that Samsung won Nvidia's large 7nm EUV order, Morgan Stanley believes that Nvidia is more likely to place the order with TSMC.
At the same time, Morgan Stanley also pointed out that Nvidia and TSMC have a close partnership. If they really place an order with Samsung, TSMC will be the main supplier, and Samsung will play the second supplier. In addition, Morgan Stanley also pointed out with recent estimates that last year TSMC's chips for Nvidia accounted for 80% of all the latter's chips.
Therefore, Morgan Stanley believes that the reports that Nvidia has placed orders with Samsung are exaggerated.
