China has issued 5G commercial licenses, and 5G construction has further heated up. According to a recent interview, Shenzhen's 5G network scale ranks among the top cities in the world, and about 8,500 5G base stations will be built within the year, covering government offices, transportation hubs, education, medical health, cultural activities, core business districts, high-tech industrial clusters and other economic and livelihood scenarios.

China Telecom has adopted a nationally innovative hybrid networking model in Shenzhen, focusing on covering the central urban area, party, government and military agencies, the Greater Bay Area Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, major ports, transportation hubs and vertical industry cooperation zones this year. A relevant person in charge of Shenzhen Telecom revealed to reporters that Shenzhen was the first in the country to adopt the SA (standalone networking) + NSA (non-standalone networking) hybrid networking model, and has opened more than 800 5G base stations.

By the end of May this year, China Telecom's 5G network has well covered multiple areas including Futian CBD, Nanshan Innovation and Entrepreneurship Zone, Baoan Central District, Qianhai, Dakong Port Area, University Town Area, Huawei Technology Park, etc. As early as October 2017, Shenzhen successfully deployed China Telecom's first 5G trial site, which is one of the earliest 5G sites in the country.

So far, China Mobile's 5G network has formed continuous coverage in the northern area of Futian CBD. The company revealed that this year it will gradually cover the central areas of all districts and major livelihood areas in the city, focusing on increasing the construction of 5G networks in government service centers, airports, high-speed rail stations, subways, highways, Huaqiangbei business district, high-tech parks, large airports, Futian Free Trade Zone and other areas, covering Qianhai Shekou Free Trade Zone, Shenzhen-Shantou Special Cooperation Zone and other important development fulcrums of the Greater Bay Area. The first 5G base station in the Shenzhen-Shantou Special Cooperation Zone was opened in May.

Shenzhen Unicom plans to build 3,000 5G base stations across the city this year. 800 of them have been built so far, and 5G network coverage has been achieved in pilot areas such as Futian CBD, Qianhai Shekou Free Trade Zone, and Xili.

Cai Yanping, general manager of Shenzhen Tower, revealed that the company can currently ensure the construction output of more than 50 5G sites per day, which will be delivered to the above three operators for the deployment of 5G base stations, helping to jointly build and share resources for 5G network coverage throughout the city, saving land and investment, and integrating with the urban landscape.

Shenzhen's 5G network coverage is advancing rapidly, and the city has innovatively developed multifunctional smart poles to increase efficiency and reduce costs for 5G network construction. A relevant person in charge of the Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology said that Shenzhen formulated action plans, system technology and engineering construction pilot specifications last year, and has now started the construction of multifunctional smart pole pilot projects such as the Guangming Marathon track, Qiaoxiang Road, Qianhai Qianwan Road and the comprehensive improvement of transportation facilities and space environment in the Futian Central District. It is expected that the implementation work will be completed by the end of September this year.
