New 4-channel dual-polarization analog beamformers MMW9012K and MMW9014K improve beam steering accuracy for 5G mmWave, thereby improving system reliability
Shanghai, China - June 17, 2022 - NXP Semiconductors NV (NXP Semiconductors NV) announced the addition of 4-channel dual-polarization analog beamformers MMW9012K and MMW9014K to its 5G product line , as well as an antenna system development kit. Both analog beamformers use NXP's silicon germanium (SiGe) technology and support dual polarization, which can improve the reliability of 5G millimeter wave solutions, increase integration, reduce the size and cost of 5G base stations, and reduce power consumption. The antenna development system allows OEMs to easily and quickly complete panel design and build 5G antenna systems faster.
Product Importance
5G mmWave solutions are often deployed in densely populated urban areas to better meet users' demands for higher bit rates with higher frequencies and bandwidths. However, the higher the frequency, the smaller the coverage area of the mmWave signal; at the same time, interference from buildings or other obstacles can also reduce coverage. NXP's 4-channel dual-polarization analog beamformer can more accurately direct synchronized beams to users, thereby reducing propagation losses common in 5G mmWave deployments and improving the overall reliability of the system.
More details
The MMW9012K and MMW9014K complement NXP's existing 5G product portfolio, which covers the main power levels and frequency ranges in 5G base stations. The MMW9012K operates at 28 GHz, while the MMW9014K operates at 26 GHz. Both devices offer high transmit and receive gain (EVM of 2.5% at 9 dBm Pout).
Doeco Terpstra, vice president and general manager of NXP's smart antenna solutions product line, said: "As 5G deployment continues to advance, more and more consumers are beginning to enjoy the convenience brought by 5G millimeter waves. Its reliability is becoming more and more important. OEMs need to be able to accurately direct synchronized beams to different users to provide users with the low latency and high bandwidth brought by 5G millimeter waves. At the same time, OEMs can use dual polarization in a single antenna panel to increase the integration of 5G millimeter wave panels, thereby reducing system size and reducing costs."
The new Antenna System Development Kit complements the dual-polarization analog beamformer to help reduce time to market and accelerate antenna panel design. The development kit features an 8x8 antenna array panel and includes a control board with GUI and power supply.
NXP will demonstrate the 4-channel dual-polarization analog beamformers MMW9012K and MMW9014K at IMS 2022. Visit the NXP booth (Richardson RFPD Booth #4090) to see these two new products and other NXP product demonstrations.
The MMW9012K and MMW9014K are in production now . For more information, or to request samples or evaluation boards, please visit the NXP website.
