Provide professional visual display solutions for mobile products under the Dimensity 5G open architecture
Shanghai, China, December 16, 2021 – Pixelworks, Inc. (NASDAQ: PXLW), a leading provider of innovative video and display processing solutions, today announced that it has reached an independent software vendor agreement with MediaTek, a world-renowned fabless semiconductor company, to jointly create advanced image display processing units for mobile products using the Dimensity 5G open architecture, providing powerful visual technology support for OEM manufacturers to achieve a differentiated experience for high-end 5G smartphones.
On December 16, MediaTek released the next-generation flagship 5G mobile platform Dimensity 9000. The platform is the industry leader in using TSMC's advanced 4nm process and the latest Armv9 architecture. It has top-level performance and excellent energy efficiency, setting a new benchmark for the flagship market of mobile chips. Pixelworks has more than 20 years of technology accumulation in the field of visual processing and holds more than 300 patents in digital imaging and visual display. Its innovative visual display processing solutions cover consumer electronics, professional displays, and video streaming services. With the launch of the latest X7 visual processor, Pixelworks will strengthen its visual display advantages in the mobile gaming field to meet more diverse mobile display needs.
This collaboration with MediaTek is a key step for Pixelworks to apply its advanced proprietary technology to a broader and more open platform. By working with business partners such as mobile platforms, we will jointly create visual solutions that can be applied to more scenarios to maximize the user experience and achieve a win-win situation for all parties.
Pixelworks' Pro Software visual solution will effectively improve the display quality of the mobile platform under the Dimensity 5G open architecture, allowing consumers to enjoy the true colors of all applications and content in sRGB, DCI-P3 and custom color gamuts. Whether playing games, watching movies, reading and browsing, or recreating the moments in photos, what you see is what you see.
Based on the excellent display architecture of the Dimensity 9000 flagship 5G mobile platform, Pixelworks' advanced visual processing algorithm advantages can be fully utilized, and more Pro Software visual solution functions will also be realized.
“Color accuracy is the foundation for creating an immersive experience. Creating a realistic visual experience is a prerequisite for reproducing or reshaping the real world, and is also the only way to seamlessly connect to the virtual world,” said Dr. Jingquan Xu, Vice President and General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit. “Pixelworks’ expertise in visual processing and display has been proven in many smartphone products. We hope that through this collaboration, OEMs and end users can enjoy the convenience of the Dimensity 5G open architecture while also fully experiencing the excellent visual display quality from Pixelworks, thereby improving the end user experience in multiple dimensions.”
Todd DeBonis, President and CEO of Pixelworks , said: "It is an honor to work with MediaTek. The Dimensity 5G open architecture opens up the underlying resources to terminal manufacturers and technology partners, allowing them to enhance algorithms based on the positioning of different products and create differentiated high-end 5G mobile products. At the same time, MediaTek's rich 5G mobile chip portfolio and stable supply chain also provide a solid guarantee for the excellent performance output of these products. More importantly, MediaTek's forward-looking layout in the fields of AI and mobile gaming also coincides with Pixelworks' exploration direction in the field of visual technology. We hope that through continued cooperation, we can bring about more technological collisions to jointly break the visual barriers between the real world and the virtual world."
